Indy Parks and IPF: How are they related?

The Indianapolis Parks Foundation is a not-for-profit organization whose role is to secure private funds for Indy Parks and Recreation. Indy Parks is a government entity that is funded by tax dollars. Tax dollars alone are not enough to acquire land for future park use, provide programs and maintain facilities. Annually, Marion County taxpayers spend $43 for our parks, compared with an average of $93 spent by US cities of similar size.

Private dollars help us reduce the tax burden and enable us to:

  • acquire land for future parks
  • fulfill maintenance needs for parks
  • build amenities like playgrounds, pools, trails and community centers.
  • provide recreational and cultural programs for children, families and older adults to enjoy.

IPF board and staff members determine funding priorities by working closely with Indy Parks and city administration. In addition, IPF strives to meet goals set forth by Indy Parks' five-year comprehensive plan that was completed in 2009.
