Indianapolis Tennis Courts Upgraded in 2011
In its 100th year, Indy Parks and Recreation renovated 58 tennis courts in its system, a $1.5 million project made possible by a generous grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. to the Indianapolis Parks Foundation.
How were the courts improved?
In addition to resurfacing, the courts were equipped with new nets and updated fencing. Many of the courts also were lined to meet the USTA Section standards for 10 & Under Tennis, in order to accommodate younger players.
Which courts were upgraded?
Tennis court renovations were completed at these 11 parks:
- Broadway & 61st Park
- Broad Ripple Park
- Brookside Park
- Douglass Park
- Ellenberger Park
- Garfield Park
- Greene Park
- Krannert Park
- Riverside Park (see photos of completed courts)
- Sahm Park
- Tarkington Park
New courts will remain open this winter
Indy Parks usually takes down all tennis court nets during the winter months, but because of the new construction and the possibility of a few playable days this winter (2011-12), Indy Parks and the Department of Public Works will be leaving one net up on every playable court mentioned above. In addition, one net will remain up all winter at the following parks:
Reserving the courts is encouraged
To ensure that a tennis court will be available when you want to use it, consider reserving the court you wish to use. Download the rental fee schedule for 2012.
