Play Structures
Indy Parks and Recreation has 126 outdoor play structures throughout Marion County. Unfortunately, 88 need to be replaced, and within two years 23 more structures will be added to this replacement list.
Grassy Creek Regional Park
Construction of a new play structure at Grassy Creek Regional Park (10510 East 30th), will begin July 7, 2011. Construction of the new structure will take two weeks (weather permitting) and will not interrupt summer programs at this park.
Boundless playground at Wes Montgomery Park
This summer (2011), Wes Montgomery Park (3400 N. Hawthorne Ln.) received a new, $150,000 Boundless Playground, a playground desiged to maximize play for everyone, regardless of abilities, with ramped wheelchair access, rubber-surface pathways, swings with high back support, raised sandbox tables, activities for the hearing and visually impaired and more. The playground is made possible by a $75,000 matching grant from CVS CareMark.
The playground is on track to be the first Boundless Playground in Indiana.
The existing playground at Wes Montgomery Park was disassembled in April and will be reassembled at a Christian school or a children's home in Africa, thanks to the efforts of Indianapolis' The Creek Church and Kids Alive International. Read the news release.
