Advocacy

History has shown that citizen involvement has been key in encouraging preservation of parklands and green space. Early in our city's history, it was citizens of Indianapolis who convinced city leaders to begin setting aside land for parks. It is essential for Indianapolis residents to become involved in advocating for parks in our community. Parks have an impact on so many aspects of our lives - families, youth, the economy and quality of life - just to name a few. Here is how you can get involved in building parks for life.

E-mail your concerns to the Indianapolis Parks Foundation

Please let us know what concerns you have about your neighborhood park or the parks system in general.

E-mail your public officials about parks issues

We need to keep parks on the agendas of our public officials. If you have questions or concerns regarding parks in your area, let the councilor in your district know. To find out which City-County Councilor represents your area, visit www.indygov.org/council

Attend Community Meetings

Speak out for parks in your community as well as parks all over the city by attending parks community meetings. To find out information on upcoming parks community meetings, please call (317) 327-PARK.

Volunteer at a park in your neighborhood

Becoming involved with your neighborhood parks is a great way to build parks for life. To volunteer with Indy Parks and Recreation, click here. To plan a cleanup in your neighborhood park or to volunteer for an existing cleanup, visit the Keep Indianapolis Beautiful website at www.kibi.org.

Join the IPF Advocacy Committee

This volunteer committee works closely with IPF staff and board members to coordinate opportunities to be better advocates for our city's park system. Under the leadership of Board of Trustees member John Jackson, this committee discusses ways to communicate with City-County Councilors, IPF donors and community members who are interested in our parks system. If you are interested in finding out more about this committee, please contact Lori Hazlett at (317) 860-3252 or LoriH@cicf.org.
